That rape scene although disturbing, is still something that gets me every time, mostly cause of its utter realism.CMrok93http://www.dtmmr.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017832040275963428.post-57848679399980578652010-05-08T11:50:14.201+05:302010-05-08T11:50:14.201+05:30Thanks Sam. All it took was a couple of moments to transform Hoffman's character from pliant to brutal, thus making the impact so nerve-racking and real, cos that's all it takes. I agree with all that you said here.Shubhajithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02040495040897333606noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017832040275963428.post-64923780288475628052010-05-08T09:27:53.164+05:302010-05-08T09:27:53.164+05:30"Straw Dogs is a deeply disturbing meditation..."Straw Dogs is a deeply disturbing meditation on the vicious cycle of violence that is intrinsic to human nature and society."<br /><br />Indeed Shubhajit, and it is one of the finest examples of its kind, and may well be my own favorite Peckinpah film. Basically this is a kind of revenge drama in the sense that the violence inflicted by Hoffmann is more savage even than that initiated against him. Hence, one can think of teh connection to Bergman's THE VIRGIN SPRING a decade earlier. I'll agree with Donophon that this is definitely one of Hoffmann's best performances.Sam Julianonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017832040275963428.post-5893624895593327622010-05-06T23:03:58.145+05:302010-05-06T23:03:58.145+05:30John:

The message is subtle and coincidental to the plot. And yes, Hoffman is terrific to say the least, if not his career's best.Shubhajithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02040495040897333606noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017832040275963428.post-4981017627986204022010-05-06T23:00:13.932+05:302010-05-06T23:00:13.932+05:30Yayaver:

It is a tad bit more messagey than some of Peckinpah's other films, but it really does have something to say, and this is Hoffman's best performance.Doniphonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02407443845368110678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017832040275963428.post-13418234662350001042010-05-06T00:51:55.333+05:302010-05-06T00:51:55.333+05:30This movie was quite strong for my test on first v...This movie was quite strong for my test on first viewing.
