Along with them, I also plan to watch Diary of a Chambermaid & Phantom of Liberty sooner rather than later.Shubhajithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02040495040897333606noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017832040275963428.post-30638773904711571032013-05-01T17:17:39.397+05:302013-05-01T17:17:39.397+05:30Shubhajit, I 'd list these as his absolute mas...Shubhajit, I 'd list these as his absolute masterpieces:

Viridiana
L'Age d'Or
Los Olvidados
The Exterminating Angel
Simon of the Desert
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeiosie
Un Chien Andalou
El
Belle de Jour

A few others push close, but these nine in my view are his irrefutable masterpieces.

A few others do push closeSam Julianonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017832040275963428.post-58105798008217841902013-05-01T11:55:02.491+05:302013-05-01T11:55:02.491+05:30Thanks a lot Sam for the appreciation & the ex...Thanks a lot Sam for the appreciation & the excellent summation of the film. The rumour about Franco having watched it in private makes for a hilarious anecdote. Since you mentioned that Viridiana is your favourite Bunuel film, I'd be really interested to know which all films of his you qualify as masterpieces.Shubhajithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02040495040897333606noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017832040275963428.post-29638827911236490042013-05-01T10:42:33.776+05:302013-05-01T10:42:33.776+05:30The social allegory VIRIDIANA is my personal favor...The social allegory VIRIDIANA is my personal favorite by this titanic artist, though I can readily name a half dozen others I would use the M word for. Once regaled as the most blasphemous of films (rumor has it that Franco watched it in private secretly, even as it openly attacked his regime) it’s attack on the Catholic Church is legendary and every bit as pointed as the one the director launched in SIMON OF THE DESERT. This rich blend includes perversity, madness, obsession, egotism, the fallibility of human nature and the conflicting thrust of human desires. As always you masterfully convey this film's artistry and themes in a fabulous capsule assessment, Shubhajit.Sam Julianonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017832040275963428.post-82683487693069277382013-04-29T22:40:17.130+05:302013-04-29T22:40:17.130+05:30Thanks Mick.

Including Tristana, which I plan to review next, I've watched 8 of his works so far (7 feature plus 1 short, viz. Un Chien Andalou).

Interestingly, Exterminating Angel happens to be my favourite as well, followed by Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, Viridiana, Belle De Jour, Obscure Object of Desire, Tristana & Los Olvidados.

Unfortunately, I haven't watched L'Age D'or. But then, there are so many others that I need to watch as well (Diary of a Chambermaid, Phantom of Liberty, Nazarin, etc.) Suffice it to say, sooner or later I shall be watching 'em all.Shubhajithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02040495040897333606noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017832040275963428.post-66454559775064828042013-04-29T08:14:04.927+05:302013-04-29T08:14:04.927+05:30Great read, I see your becoming quite the Bunuel f...Great read, I see your becoming quite the Bunuel fan, I'm a big fan of his work only seeing 5 so far, The Exterminating Angel being my favourite, L'age D'or being the most unusual (have you seen that one?)Micknoreply@blogger.com
